Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role

We are seeking a Purchasing Technician to join the Tourism and Hospitality team within the Academic Delivery and Development Directorate. This role provides essential operational and technical support to the Culinary School, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of teaching kitchens and related facilities.

The position involves managing purchasing processes for food, equipment, and consumables; maintaining accurate inventory and cost records; supporting safe and efficient kitchen operations; and assisting academic staff in preparing for classes, events, and functions. The role also includes liaising with suppliers, monitoring stock rotation, maintaining compliance with health and safety standards, and ensuring that teaching environments are well prepared for ākonga (students).

Ngā mahi | Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating purchasing, stock control, and supply logistics for culinary operations

• Managing supplier relationships and ensuring best value for quality and service 

• Assisting with kitchen setup, maintenance, and resource preparation for teaching and events 

• Maintaining accurate inventory, purchasing, and cost records

• Supporting staff and ākonga with operational requirements in a safe, professional environment

• Contributing to continuous improvement and sustainability practices within the Culinary School

You will have strong organisational and communication skills, with experience in purchasing, procurement, or stores management, ideally within a hospitality, food production, or educational environment.

You bring:

• Relevant qualification or experience in purchasing, logistics, or hospitality operations

• Knowledge of inventory systems, food safety, and cost control principles

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment
