Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role

The Academic Staff Member (ASM) is responsible for the teaching and development of introductory accounting papers within the Bachelor of Applied Management (BAM) and Bachelor of Accountancy (BAcc) programmes. This full-time permanent role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching, student success, and graduate readiness in the field of Accounting.

Ngā mahi | Key Responsibilities 

  • Deliver engaging, inclusive, and industry-relevant introductory accounting education using diverse teaching methods and technologies across lectures, tutorials, workshops, and online platforms.
  • Design and maintain introductory accounting curriculum that integrates employability, numeracy, and critical thinking skills, while aligning with programme outcomes, NZQA standards, and industry expectations.
  • Design fair and effective assessments for introductory accounting courses, provide timely and personalised feedback, moderate results for consistency, and support ākonga (student) success through progress monitoring and targeted interventions.
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to foster ākonga confidence and engagement, while creating an inclusive learning environment that encourages the practical application of accounting concepts.
  • Maintain up-to-date expertise in accounting, business practice, and tertiary teaching through ongoing professional development, contributing to programme enhancement and industry engagement to ensure curriculum relevance.

He kōrero mōu | About You

  • Hold a Bachelor-level qualification in accounting, or equivalent experience demonstrating expertise in accounting principles and practice, with a certification in Xero.
  • Demonstrates strong communication, facilitation, and organisational skills, with a commitment to professionalism, ethics, and equitable education.
  • Embraces inclusive, ākonga centred teaching through a flexible, innovative, and collaborative approach that supports the success of diverse learners.
  • Cultural competence and commitment to equity, including understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and supporting the use of te reo Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori in the workplace.
  • A  commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and vocational education excellence.
